FESTIVAL REVIEW & PHOTOS
WELCOME!

The
Fifth Annual Romanian Festival of Greater Detroit welcomes the
public to Saint
George Romanian Orthodox Cathedral, on Saturday,
September 19 (12pm-11pm) and Sunday, September 20 (12pm-9pm).
A variety of events, displays and
attractions will offer you and your family a wonderful and memorable
experience — promising to be the biggest and best event yet!
Delicious
homemade foods and
pastries will be
available for dine in or take
home. Try traditional
sarmale (cabbage rolls),
fresh sausage,
mămăliga (polenta),
and more. Watch grape
pressing demonstrations, and sample imported
wines, beer and
mineral water.
Purchase pastries,
tortes, nut rolls and more in the bakery, and
enjoy warm doughnuts, clatite (crepes),
and coffee at our outdoor cafe!
Displays
will educate you, and a new marketplace bazaar with a variety vendors
will provide the opportunity
to purchase icons, t-shirts, art, books and other gifts. Tours
of the Cathedral offer a chance to view iconography and learn about the
Orthodox Church, and the
exhibit area will share the rich diversity of Romanian life. Children
will surely love our kids area with a giant slide, moon bouncer, games,
face painting and, on Sunday, to take a real pony or horseback ride!
We
welcome the world-renowned JUNII SIBIULUI ENSEMBLE & ORCHESTRA
direct from Romania with
soloists to entertain you! Dance and enjoy traditional and modern
music with orchestra and DJ! Also, we anticipate Detroit’s own “Românasul”
Folk Ensemble, and Windsor’s “Rapsodia” Ensemble
offering unique entertainment as well!

We invite you to join us during the Holy Services throughout the weekend
as well. Saturday at 5:00pm, the evening service of Vespers will be
celebrated, then on Sunday morning, the Matins service begins at 9:00am.
At 10:00am we anticipate the entrance of His Grace, Bishop IRINEU Duvlea,
Auxiliary Bishop of our diocese, and the celebration of the main service
of our Church, The Divine Liturgy. Services are offered in both the English
and Romanian languages, so we sincerely hope both our Orthodox friends
as well as those from other faiths will be with us.
Admission is only $5.00 per person (children under 6 free!). Pricing is
affordable and
parking is free! For more information, please call (248) 569-4833
or via www.sgroc.org.
For over 96 years St. George Cathedral has been the mother community
of the Romanians of Detroit
— that values its customs and heritage. From the
beauty of our costumes to our ancient Christian Faith,
to wonderful food and
music – we and look
forward to sharing our culture with you!
