NEW YEAR'S EVE "REVELION"
31 December 2006
OH WHAT A NIGHT:
Revelion 2007! Our parish’s first ‘official’ New Year’s Eve Ball in more
than a decade proved to be a resounding success and a memorable evening!
Preparations began months in advance with menus, tickets, and other
necessary work. Guests arrived in formal wear and hostesses greeted each
party and escorted them to their table. Both halls were elegantly
decorated in white and silver with blue accents and candlelight warming
the room as some 350 guests entered. A several course menu began with an
appetizers & wine. Soloist Nicoleta Petrin & Orchestra
delighted the crowd throughout the night with a variety of music as
people danced between courses of the meal. For the third course, guests
were invited to a plentiful buffet of Romanian and Continental
selections. The band took the stage once more and played until 11:15pm,
at which time everyone was invited into the Cathedral for a “Te Deum”
(service of thanksgiving) for the New Year. It was moving to note that
the church quickly filled with young and old alike, who lit candles and
knelt piously as Father Laurence led the prayers. Several participants
expressed their gratitude for this unique service that added peace and
joy to the night and the coming year. Guests then returned to the
Cultural Center, uncorked their champagne and counted down into 2007,
toasting and singing “Multi Ani Traiasca”. A large dessert buffet
followed highlighted by strudel (filled with “lucky coins”), and later
fresh sausage made for a popular snack! The band played on and the dance
floor remained full well into the early morning, with smiling faces
happily enjoying a truly elegant and traditional “Revelion” together,
displaying a real spirit of family among guests and hosts alike.
My
sincere thanks and gratitude are offered to those who worked tirelessly
for the success of this event. Many people, both parishioners and non
commented that this was one of, if not the nicest New Years they’ve ever
been to, and look forward very much to more good things at the
Cathedral! Best wishes for 2007! La multi ani!
